How
to Find the Correct Master Cylinder
or Replacement Parts
From
the early days of hydraulic disc brakes for motorcycles, Brembo
has supplied master cylinders for a variety of applications and
mountings, including handlebar-mount brake and clutch units, and
rear-mounted master cylinders for standard and integrated brakes.
This broad selection is augmented by the availability of integral
and remote-reservoir variants in brembo OEM and "Gold Line" versions
and the latest development in front master cylinder technology-
brembo's "Radial GP" unit, whose original design offers the ultimate
in feel, adjustability, compactness and lightweight forged-alloy
construction.
There are eight "families" of master cylinders produced
by brembo over the years, as well as some one-off varieties.
There
are two ways to identify your brembo master cylinder for
repair or replacement:
1.
Check INDEX-1 (pg.62 - 70) “brembo Master Cylinders & Calipers-OEM
Applications” for the part number of the unit fitted as OEM to
your machine. Check this number against the “Master Cylinders
Cross-Reference” (pg.20) for the unit type. Refer to images in
the “brembo Master Cylinders” section (pg.22 - 23). Compare your
unit to the image found in this section and order accordingly.(Due
to production line variations by the manufacturers, we recommend
verifying your needs by also utilizing the next method ).
2a.
Can’t find a matching part number? Find the piston size of your
unit: Front Master Cylinders - check the top or bottom of the
lever clevis for a stamped alphanumeric string. The last two digits
in the string indicate the piston size in mm (EXAMPLE: ‘1PJK 15’
= 15mm piston. In the case of ‘Radial-GP’ pumps, you may see a
‘PR’ or ‘/’’ stamping, followed by a number. If the number is
“19x18” or “16x18”, the first number is piston size, the second
refers to the pivot centers of the unit’s lever). Rear Master
Cylinders - for lever-types, check clevis area as above. If rod-actuated,
check the entire body for the alphanumeric string or a string
starting with ‘PS’ (EXAMPLE: ‘PS12’ = 12mm piston). In some cases,
there will be no stampings at all - if this is the case, contact
us for assistance.
2b.
Scan the appropriate pages in the “brembo Master Cylinders” section
(pg.22 - 39) for an image corresponding to your unit. The correct
replacement or repair part number information, based on the model
& piston size of your unit will be on the facing page.
(Further
note - the raised number on cast units IS NOT the part number,
and is only useful as a start- ing point in master cylinder
identification. DON’T confuse the cast number with the part
number!).
