Custom Magnesium Auto
Wheel Program
For
over 18 years T.A.W. represented Tecnomagnesio who supplied
the Campagnolo designed magnesium wheels for Ferrari and ohter
exotic performance and race cars.
As you may know Tecnomagnesio was sold to MIM and they decided
to do away with all magnesium wheel production. This has left
a major void in the market which has never been filled. Some
Companies have started to make aluminum copies of some of the
wheels but they are heavy and not really appropiate for the
high end cars that need the wheels.
A couple of years ago we acquired the original Campagnolo moulds
for the Ferrari 512 race car wheels. These wheels can be produced
in sizes from 9.00 - 16.00 x 15 sizes. They can be fitted with
pin or splined drive hubs so many model race cars can be covered.
We are now expanding that program as outlined below.
Our wheels are cast in America by one of the finest magnesium
sand cast foundries who specializes in high level casting for
commercial and military applications. The castings that they
are producing are of the highest quality and much better than
the originals. This is because they added a filter to the magnesium
that flows into the mould, and they also added several flow
passages instead of using only two larger one's. The casting
exhibit absolutely no porosity and each is x rayed as part of
the final testing.
The castings are then sent to a very high level machining Company
that does all mill spec work. They also have x ray type measuring
systems so we know that all the thicknesses are proper. This
is most important to assure the safety of the finished wheels.
Because of the quality of the castings and the precision of
the machining the wheels come out looking like polished billet
material.
We now have moulds to do the following wheels:
8.00
& 9.00 x 13 wheels for the early Dino 206S race cars.
9.00 - 16.00 x 15 Ferrari 512 wheels.
Future Projects: We can produce the patterns out of wood and
exactly replicate any wheel that is needed. Since the patterns
are wood and spacers can be used to make various sizes a single
master pattern is what is required with less expensive spacers
used for different widths.
All wheels are produced with AZ-91 magnesium which is the best
material for making highest quality performance wheels.
Jim Glickenhaus's Ferrari 206S racing wheels. Jim acquired the
206S out of a museum in Holland and it had its original 40 year
old wheels. Since this was the Offical Pace Car for the Formula
One Race in Bahrain on April 11, Jim did not want to risk driving
on the original wheels.
We exactly replicated the original wheels and they look and
perform great. The fronts are 8.00 x 13 and the rear's are 9.00
x 13.
